This is my first post here and probably aspects of what I am interested in doing belong in other categories but I will start here.
I believe that because of:
The rapidly accelerating World’s Sixth Mass Extinction
Now unstoppable Global Warming
World Economic collapse in the near-term
The slide of Western “Democracies” into full-blown Fascism
Global military conflicts over water, food and resources generally
that the collapse in Human Civilisation as we currently know it is inevitable within single-digits years or a decade or two at most. I am not interested in arguing here about this thesis but I want some feedback on the technical issues I outline below.
My background was in BioMedical Research and then IT but for more than 20 years I have been involved in Radical Life Extension projects but now the problems itemised above will rule out the biological options for RLE and I am convinced that the only option is for cybernetic humans to inherit the culture and civilisation of the last 10,000 years.
There are concerns over malevolent AI but what I am talking about here is the uploading of human consciousnesses from both living people and from whatever information can be recovered from frozen human brains. We need the equivalent of a “Manhatten Project” funded and run by like-minded people to rapidly develop the technology to allow this process to occur.
So, I want to create a DAO (probably via my non-profit NAF - see below) that:
Can accept donations or contributions
Run itself with human participation initially but later with an AI to help make logical and rational decisions as soon as possible
Successfully fund the rapid development of the technology required
Constructive feedback about my idea would be greatly appreciated!
I think everything you want to do with a DAO is possible using Aragon today. I say if you are passionate about this and have the skills and the stamina to pull it off, go for it!

and thinking more about how this org might be able to work, I have come up with some more questions which I will hopefully get some faster answers to from this forum - rather than fumbling around too much with the test org (although I will keep exploring that setup of course):
With Aragon is it possible to create a class of tokens that people can commit to paying for in the future on an incremental basis eg 1% or 10% at a time according to the cost of the particular stage of the project to be paid for? This would allow for better planning of future expenditure - but not prevent more tokens being made available for new supporters.
With Aragon can I:
Create one class of tokens in the DAO (for myself only) where I pay for these tokens with actual Australian company shares from my own company? ie I am asset “rich” but cash “poor” but I need cash to pay for research that is paid for by the DAO - but carried out by the non-profit.
Create a second class of DAO tokens where all other buyers need to pay with cash / crypto?
How does the DAO prevent the raison d’être for the DAO being completely subverted by a future majority? - is the only way by just requiring a greater than 50%+1 vote?
Blockchains are opt-in systems, so you can mint tokens and say token holders must pay a maintenance fee on them. But you cannot compel them to honor the obligation, at most you can just burn the tokens
However with the aragon black fundraising app, others can buy tokens, and the funds get released over time to the project check out this blog post.
This enables you to have a type of DAO called a DAICO, it would be a great model for what your trying to achieve
This is not possible unless you tokenise your shares. There is no way for the DAO to take possession of your shares.
security tokens are becoming a thing, but selling to an open permissionless DAO owning may be illegal,

I’m not quite sure I understand how this purchase commitment would work. Do you mean giving people the ability to buy an option to purchase tokens in the future at a specific price? Or something more like Kickstarter where people pay money now and get a specific number of tokens later? Or something else?

In general it is possible to create two different tokens in your organization using Aragon. I would need more information to know about how you intend for these tokens to relate to each other and to work in your organization to be able to tell you if Aragon can fully satisfy this use case today or if it would require additional development work.

Today, there is not much a DAO could do to prevent this, except to try to avoid giving tokens to people who might try to subvert the purpose of the DAO. But we are developing the Aragon Court specifically to prevent this kind of “majority attack”. See these blog posts for further explanation:
