Gamifying Aragon inside of Atlantis World

Introduction

Atlantis World is building the Web3 social metaverse by connecting Web3 with social, gaming and education in one lightweight virtual world that’s accessible to everybody.

Essentially, a mobile-ready pixel metaverse that could be stored on a pen drive and played seamlessly on most devices (even an old laptop), combining social features with incentivised interactive learning to onboard users into the Web3 ecosystem.

From creating a first ever Web3 wallet, connecting to new blockchain RPCs (we rebuilt chainlist.org inside of the game so users can connect to new chains with 3 or 4 clicks), depositing into DeFi markets, trading assets on DEXs, trading NFTs using popular marketplaces and voting in DAOs… all is possible inside of Atlantis World in a gamified way.

We’re building quests and designing incentives so that users can be rewarded for interacting with and learning about these kinds of applications and use cases in-game.

Imagine every time a user is guided through the process of using a DeFi protocol by a scripted non-player character, exploring the Web3 ecosystem as an MMORPG game world, they might earn some tokens, an NFT badge or wearable or an in-game perk (such as a mount, super-power or any other kind of experience enhancer). DAOs could also leverage this to increase participation in their governance, especially when combined with other Atlantis World features like token-gating and voice chat!

Deliverables

  • Build the Aragon Clubhouse inside of Atlantis World so that users can gather together, socialize (voice chat), and explore Aragon. The clubhouse will be fully personalized to Aragon branding and even feature NPC(s) who teach users about Aragon and DAO governance. We could also implement token gating in future.
  • Integrating Aragon Client inside of Atlantis World in a gamified way.

Next Steps to explore with the Aragon community

  • Integrating other gamified Aragon products (Aragon Voice, Aragon Govern, Vocdoni, etc) inside of Atlantis World
  • Creating MMORPG-style Learn2Earn (incentivized learning) quests to onboard users into Aragon + the wider web3 ecosystem.
  • Enabling network effects by rolling out gamified Aragon products in Atlantis City and cities of other DAO / web3 communities to onboard more users who are already Web3 native.
  • Airdropping (optionally, token-gated) clubhouse to the AN DAO.
  • Aragon wearables and swag inside of Atlantis World.
  • Aragon core contributors co-working space (token-gated with NFT/POAP/social token etc)
  • Other suggestions from the Aragon community.

Additional support requests

We’d highly appreciate some support on our mission to collaborate and provide value to the Aragon ecosystem / community:

  • Grant funding;
  • Community / user feedback and collaborative efforts;
  • Joint marketing.

Guiding Tours

We’ve recorded two guiding tours inside of Atlantis World to share some progress with you & better explain what we’re building!

Part 1. Atlantis World: Overview (5:00)

Part 2. DeFi map & protocol interactions (5:00)

Final Notes

We’re currently building Atlantis World Alpha v2 with the first iterations already live (token-gated) and tested by our community. It will feature over 25+ deeply integrated Web3 applications and social clubhouses across 9 different blockchains with the strongest communities in Web3. Users can have voice chats (with/without token gating) and vote in DAOs in-game, as well as deposit into DeFi, trade assets on DEXs, trade NFTs on marketplaces, play mini-games, view their NFT holdings as a smart inventory, play music using Audius and attend different community social events.

Last year, we had 2k+ active users on our demo version and 7k+ sign-ups for the newer version, and have since built an incredibly strong ecosystem partner network and made vast improvements to our core product and vision!

Atlantis World has never taken a single dollar in private investment, scaling the team whilst building product fully bootstrapped with grants and revenue. We’re a community first project, with 8k+ Discord community where we host regular calls and podcasts, and astonishing 7k+ contributors to our Gitcoin grant!

This is really cool! I have played around Atlantis a bit and it’s a better version of Gather Town. I can see how a lot of growth and education initiatives can feel more engaging in that environment. Looping in @jessicasmith @fmurphy and @Samantha to maybe share some thoughts on how this could work and who else should be looped in such a conversation.

I think bringing the functionality of “vote in the town hall of your DAO” can be pretty cool (not sure how useful) but I like the idea.

@revmiller what is the potential size of a grant you would be looking for, given the deliverables outlined?

Definitely see a lot of potential for interaction inside Atlantis, from exploring DAOs and voting (as @fartunov mentioned), but setting them up inside the game and potentially doing some community management (not yet sure how, but for sure we can think of something).

@revmiller given Aragon has a few products, and we are working on a new one to consolidate this product offering, could we “evolve” the clubhouse in the future to address the changes?

Regarding grants, is it specifically for the clubhouse? Can you elaborate more on the expectations here?

Regards

hey everyone, greatly appreciate your feedback and questions @fartunov @ramon !

indeed! DAO voting inside of the lightweight, accessible metaverse enables unique use-cases for DAOs and user/contributor onboarding. think about the possibilities of in-game activities (ie. interactive quests, onboarding flows) that would drive more users to engage with Aragon products!

to start with, it’d make absolute sense to explore:
a) building fully-branded, voice-chat & web3 events enabled Aragon clubhouse, featuring Aragon NPC that will meet and greet users, onboarding them into the Aragon ecosystem. as stated before, the clubhouse (and different rooms in the future) could be open/token-gated.

b) integrating & gamifying Aragon Client.
// long-term vision → incentivise/drive users to interact w/ Aragon all around Atlantis World, especially in the DAO-specific clubhouses that use Aragon as their main DAO tooling.

there will be an iterative process of ideating, sketching/designing, integrating, lots of testing, etc. we’d greatly appreciate Aragon / AN DAO / community’s feedback & preferences (if any) on the exterior/interior clubhouse design, as well the NPC character design. obviously, we’d share our sketches / ideas too (following Aragon’s branding guidelines).

the total requested grant amount for both deliverables would be $25k, paid in stables. we’re happy to start building asap, and, if prefered, even ship the results first & receive grant funding retroactively (we genuinely care about our partners and don’t want them to feel any risk).

after shippiiiiing the deliverables, we’d love to host a community meetup to showcase the results (give a tour of Aragon clubhouse ft. the integration), and then let the community play around and test out too!

all of the above would be a step #1 into our long-term, win-win collaboration. moving forward, we’d be happy to explore:

  • creating fun & meaningful quests to introduce & onboard users to Aragon ecosystem.
  • hosting a week of Aragon events / campaign(s) inside of AW, where (!) all of our ecosystem partner communities will be invited to participate.
  • featuring Aragon in other cities of our partner communities
  • integrating other gamified Aragon products inside of AW (if needed)

happy to answer any other questions you might have. tysm for your care, and let’s DAO it :handshake:

Loving the direction that this is going.

Maybe we could have a sort of brainstorming session between Atlantis and AN DAO to figure out what this initial integration will look like? Not a gigantic meeting, but with some handpicked people from both sides. thoughts @fartunov ?

Second, just throwing out there the idea for Aragon’s NPC

Yes, absolutely…on the NPC I mean

Overall, it could make sense to loop in onboarding (cc:@Shawncubbedge) and dTech (cc: @SpectraCryptoVerse ) - let’s coordinate in Discord for the call you are suggesting.
