Funding Proposal: A DAO meetup in Ljubljana, Slovenia

The Slovene Blockchain Association (SBCA) together with Anja Blaj and Marina Markežič is organising a DAO meetup in Ljubljana, Slovenia on June 19th 2019. The aim of the event is to present the updates form the most prominent DAOs to a community that is crypto/blockchain savvy, but not necessarily that familiar with the DAO topic. Daniel Shavit from Aragon Black is going to have a presentation on how to set an Aragon company, during the panel discussion (together with the representatives of Gnosis, DaoStack and Metacartel) he will talk about Aragon’s latest updates. Before and after the event we’ll organise meetings and a networking session for the community to meet Daniel and talk to him about Aragon in person. Since currently there are no significant DAO projects in the region, we hope we can stir up some interest in DAOs. We are expecting 100 attendees among which industry/community leaders from the region.

The amount proposed is 652 DAI.
The event has been organised on a voluntary basis. The proposed amount will help us cover part of the expenses (the venue and live streaming), we plan the total cost to be shared among other (3 in total) partners involved. We realise that the event is happening in 10 days and the community usually needs more time to evaluate a proposal, if this is the case and if the community approves, we agree to be refunded after the event.

Why are we organising a DAO meetup in Slovenia?
Companies like Bitstamp and Cashila started very early on in Slovenia and because of it, Slovenian population has been observing and heavily participating in the crypto adoption from early stages. The vibrant scene with multiple projects has been slowing down. The aim of the event is to present the updates form the most prominent DAOs to a community that is crypto/blockchain savvy, but not necessarily that familiar with the DAO topic. Local projects are going to be presented at the lightning talks session. Before and after the event we’ll organise meetings and a networking session for the community to meet the team members behind the DAOs in person.
Whereas bigger blockchain events are not happening in this region, bringing such an esteemed group of projects to Ljubljana is going to be beneficial for the community and the projects themselves, addressing new potential users. Since we have been promoting the event in Croatia and Austria we are expecting visitors from there too.

How are we going to promote Aragon’s objectives?
Aragon has already designed a framework for building new organisations. The Aragon “toolkit” is a great way for the community to get introduced to DAOs. It’s structured in a way, which is user friendly, the solution for some of the basic problems are already suggested by Aragon, so the users don’t need to solve those problems from scratch and can experiment with it, while shaping their organisations. Presenting all the tools and the use cases for DAOs will increase the awareness among the Slovene community and attract new users.
